At Dell EMC Research Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, we have a strong interdisciplinary team dedicated to R&D on Big Data Management and Analytics and their relation to IoT and Cloud Computing. The team is composed of 14 researchers with complementary skills in the areas of Databases, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Parallel Programming, Statistics, Simulation, Planning and Optimization. Most of the researchers either hold a PhD degree or are PhD students (holding a MSc degree). Most of the researchers have previous work experience in academia, industry or both. The team has been working on projects in collaboration with other groups from Dell EMC as well as with customers and industry partners from various industries such as oil and gas, healthcare, telecommunications and finance. The team also works in close collaboration with various other groups from academia. The approach of the research center is to identify relevant problems of the various industries and then create and enhance new technologies that solve them, generating competitive advantage for Dell EMC.

Role in ATMOSPHERE

The ATMOSHPHERE project is aligned with Dell EMC’s strategy as it is one of largest health IT providers. In addition, the concept of Trustworthiness, taking into account the functional requirements of the applications, scalability, security and privacy, is important for various other industries. Dell EMC Brazil will participate in Work Package 4 (Cloud Services Managing Federated and Hybrid Resources) with the specific focus on orchestration and management of hybrid resources and on performance prediction and proactive policies. Besides this topic, Dell EMC Brazil will take part of Exploitation and Sustainability workplan, to collaborate with market analysis and development of exploitation plans.
